Cover image illustrates performance of the program on a phylogenetic dataset (left) that was simulated under a speciation-extinction model where rate shifts occurred under a Poisson process. Branch colors correspond to the instantaneous (true) speciation rate. Tree was analyzed with BAMM using three priors on the number of shifts. A model with two rate shifts had the highest posterior probability in all analyses (posterior distribution: polygons), despite prior parameterizations that differed by three orders of magnitude (blue dashed lines). Branch-specifi c speciation estimates are highly correlated with the true rates (right trees); color scale is identical for all trees.
